Jacob Vestergaard, Speaker of the Løgting (the Faroese Parliament), has asked the Løgting to approve DKK 74.4 million for four new main engines for the ferry SMYRIL. Half of the cost covers the purchase of the four engines, while the other half covers the replacement work. The four main engines are to be installed when SMYRIL goes to the shipyard in 2028, but because of delivery times they must be ordered as early as 2027.

SMYRIL operates for the public shipping company Strandfaraskip Landsins on the Suðuroy – Tórshavn route.
